Dressember 2012 week 1.

Hello,

In my last posts I pushed a bit to join Dressember this year. I'm a bit late with the first week of pictures, but better late then never.

Bettie Page dress.

Vintage dress and coat.

Vintage skirt. Belt and jumper from Cortefiel.

Vintage dress.

Vintage dress.

Vintage dress, shrug and coat.

Vintage 3 piece suit. When I found this it was almost a rag.
However with some good ironing it turned into a beauty ;)

This wraps up week 1 of Dressember...

New York's wacky pictures ;)

Here they are. The fun pictures of a week in NY, NY. Enjoy.

And that wrap's it up. That suitcase on the right and on the ground are mine. Yes I did some damage ;)
But I did finally find some flamingo lawn ornaments for the pricely sum of...$7. Ha!

That's all folks!

New York, Part 2.

More pictures from my trip to New York in September. I didn't realise I took so much!

I'm going to begin on a more serious note. The 9/11 memorial. Words can not explain it, pictures neither.
Just goose bumps...

The only Belgian who got killed, more goose bumps.

And then we went to the ocean...Coney Island! It's a very strange sensation to walk on a beach when you just came out of a subway. But a whole lot of fun!
We took a ride on the Wonder Wheel in one of the swinging cars. I must admit, I was a bit scared. But very happy I didn't eat a corndog BEFORE we went on it.

 The beach!

 The Wonder Wheel!

What song was stuck in my head while I was on Coney Island?
Under the boardwalk...

And then...New York by night. On top of the Empire State Building. With a full moon. Just lovely.
We went on the main deck and what a great view! If you ever want to go, and you don't want to waste your precious minutes (or even hours) in New York, order Main Deck express tickets. Believe me it's worth it!

And we went to an off broadway musical. Hilarious! It was so funny, I cried.

And we went to the Brooklyn Brewery...
If you go, visit the Brooklyn flea. Good vintage, good food ;)

That's all I have to say about New york. However I'm going to make one more post with fun and crazy pictures.

Don't forget...it's Dressember on saturday ;)

New York in September...

I do realize that it's almost December, but whatever ;)

So...at the end of September I went to New York for the second time. Again the week was crammed full with sightseeing, shopping and a smidge of culture. I still haven't seen everything. And I keep adding favourite shopping adresses.

Picture time!

Do you know what this is? It's part of a mini exhibition at the Public Library (Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street). This exhibition was made for me. Very vintage kitsch and...free! Some more pictures for you.

Did I mention I want a pink kitchen? I was in heaven darling.

Now on to the one museum we took a peek at. And yes, a peek. Because the Met (The Metropolitan Museum of Art) is enormous. However the things we did see...*nice*

That's my new sofa ;)

Yes this is INSIDE the museum!

Funky on the rooftop...

That view...sigh...I wish I was there again...

I think I'll leave it with this for tonight. Otherwise...picture overload!!! There is so much I still want to share, but first a reminder. Yes, it's here again...Dressember! You heard it right. A whole month of dresses.

Goodnight and join Dressember!
=> you have to make a friend request, but no one get's turned down! So go on, I know you want to ;)

Sewing, mending or altering?

For the past few days I have been mending my vintage dresses. I like a bit of hand sewing. You can't always use a machine! And then I found a few of my winter skirts. All of them are too big at the waist. So why not alter them? I didn't think it would be easy, but easy enough. WRONG! I'm still working on the first skirt (the others are even more of a challenge).
So what do I have to show for at this point?
A skirt with a waistband I have to hand sew on the wrong side.
A broken needle from my sewing machine (don't even ask!).
Unendless frustration with myself, the skirt and the sewing machine.

Long story short...it all went wrong!
Better start on that waistband...

London calling, last one I promise ;)

If you say London (or the UK for that matter) I think of: Vivien Of Holloway, Collectif, What Katie Did and Freddies of Pinewood. Look it up, it changed my life ;)
I bought something of all of the above! Yes no pictures of WKD, but seriously! Did you really think I was going to post a picture like that?

The last picture is of a great shop in the Camden stables market.
Black Rose. And I didn't buy a dress there! But I did buy some lovely Freddies of Pinewood jeans. Whoopie!
Tomorrow I'll be in an iron bird ;)

London calling, a bit of vintage.

I've been to London a few times before. So last year I found some lovely things at Beyond Retro. Including a swim cap with flowers. This year however, nada!
But no fear. Brick Lane has enough other shops to offer with gorgeous and affordable vintage. Just throw yourself in the Sunday crowd and rummage!

This year I also went looking in the Lower Marsh. Prices are a bit steep for my taste. I did find one lovely shop with ok prices (but I would have loved them to be just a bit cheaper). It's What the butler wore. I went home with 2 summery dresses.

London calling, no I'm not an alcoholic! I'm just from Belgium ;)

Between the shopping and more shopping we had a second or two to eat and put our feet up. And have a drink. Or two. Or a pitcher...

London calling, Collectif clothing

Some more shopping happened... I've got sweaters from Collectif up the wazoo (pardon my french). However not so much dresses. I did buy a dress that day...again a secret for Dressember ;)
And then some mocha slurping!

London calling, shopping your arse off (can I say that on here?)

When you say London, you say shopping. Me? I say vintage shopping dahling.
First up? Vivien Of Holloway @ Holloway Road.

No I did not buy that dress. That's a secret untill Dressember ;)

London calling, the prequel

Once again shame on me. I went to London at the beginning of July. I fully intended to make a full blogpost of this weekend of shop till you drop. Did you see it? Neither did I. However since I'll be going across the GREAT pond tomorrow...I'll present a few short posts with pictures. And after that updates from...uhm...well you'll see ;)

The prequel...
We started our trip in our own city. Antwerp!

Oh whatever ;)

Have you looked up the word procrastinator recently? I'm pretty sure my picture is next to it.
I have made a dress a great while ago. There should be a jacket with it. That did not happen...yet.
My thought was to put them both in one post. Not going to happen.
So....picture time!
